Donald is a current member of the North Western Railway. He works on The Little Western branch line, with Duck, Samantha, his twin brother Douglas, and formerly Oliver, before he left Sodor, and when Molly brought him back. He, along with Douglas, can pull both passengers and freight. They prefer pulling coaches, but they can keep the trucks in order easily. They are very loyal to their friends as well, so if anybody messes with them, they'll have to go through the Caledonian twins!

Personality[]

Donald and Douglas are Scottish twin engines. They are practical, peppery, proud and level-minded, but, despite their maturity, they enjoy playing practical jokes and have been known to impersonate one another in the past. They were fitted with nameplates to specifically end this element of their humor.

Donald and Douglas are very able workers, strong performers, and handle any task well. They are fully capable of being firm with the other big engines, such as Gordon and Henry and even the Troublesome Trucks know better than to try their tricks on them. They are both used to harsh winter conditions too. Coupled back to back, with a coach between their tenders, they are very capable of patrolling the lines, clearing them of the snow. The twins both pull their weight on the Main Line and both Duck and Edward's branch lines. They can enjoy a joke with any engine. They are happy to act as the brawn of Sir Topham Hatt's steam-driven goods haulers. Between the two, Donald tends to be the charming, witty joker whereas Douglas is the smart, quick-thinking, calmer-natured one of the pair. Both display a keen sense of wit and the pair usually get to have the last laugh, more often taking the moral high ground. But that does not mean they will not be just a little bit smug about it when a deserving engine meets their comeuppance.

Donald and Douglas hate to be parted from each other, but, like most twins, they did occasionally have their arguments among themselves and can squabble with one another. Also, Donald and Douglas used to have a strong dislike of diesels. But over time their dislike for diesels has softened and they appeared to have grown accustomed to their diesel companions.

Appearances[]

Season 1[]

"Dirty Diesel"[]

Donald was seen at the sheds with the other engines, wondering who the new engine will be, then Diesel shows up. After the rude insults Diesel says, Donald agrees with Douglas after he says he should be scrapped.

Later on, when Donald comes to collect his train, he sees Diesel being rude to Douglas. Donald snaps at Diesel telling him to leave him alone.

"Evidence Never Lies"[]

After Douglas has an accident, Percy and Toby bring the breakdown train. Donald, along with Duck, Edward, Henry and Sir Topham Hatt were at the scene of the accident. Sir Topham Hatt wanted to know who put the boulder on the bridge for Douglas to crash into. Percy remembered about the way Diesel spoke to Douglas and him leaving the yard. He explains everything. Sir Topham Hatt tells Percy and Donald to fetch Diesel from the yard but Diesel is not there. A search party is soon held for Diesel.

"Sodor On Edge - Part 6"[]

Donald was at Mount Sodor with Diesel 10, Diesel, Arry, Bert and the rest of the mind controlled engines. James and Edward were hanging on each side of the cliff. Thomas, Henry and Douglas arrive to the scene. After James was pushed off the mountain by Bert, the engines begin to fight. After Thomas bumps into Percy to make him back to normal, Douglas does the same to Donald. But, Diesel 10 comes up behind Thomas and Percy and pushes them off Mount Sodor with Donald and Douglas watching from behind.

"Aftermath"[]

Donald, along with Percy, Edward, Douglas, Arry and Stepney watch Thomas wake up after his fall. Luckily, Thomas, Percy, Edward and Stepney all survived the fall of Mount Sodor. Thomas asks about Arthur and James. Edward says Arthur should be ok but unfortunately James may not be ok. Stepney says the red engine fell off Mount Sodor first and the others landed on top of him. Douglas then explained he pushed Diesel 10 off the mountain and he along with Bert should be waking up soon, and Percy says once they do, they are going straight back to where they came from. Thomas asks about Diesel and Henry. Arry says while Henry chased Diesel off the mountain, there was a car filled with dynamite in the way. Diesel smashed into it killing him instantly. Henry was able to survive but he was badly damaged and the workers say he might have to go back to crewe. Thomas, Percy and Edward agreed that while Diesel caused trouble in the past, his death was unfortunate. Soon Thomas, Percy, Edward, Donald, Douglas, Arry and Stepney all went back to the station where the other engines and Sir Topham Hatt were. Arthur who has now woken up, said Diesel 10 and Bert would kill him if he ran away and then they left. Thomas says Diesel 10 and Bert are loose on the island and soon the engines start and search to look for them. They were not lucky but they all hope they are gone.

''Ghosts''[]

Thomas arrives at Tidmouth Sheds, heads through the open birth and sees loads of his friends corpses. He was shocked at everything. He then sees Donald's ghost in front of him. Donald says that everything is ok, simply because of how Thomas did his part like how he did his, and like how the others did before him. Donald explains they gave them the strength they needed, to do what they had to do for the others who got strength from them and how they help one another. Thomas felt like it was ending. Donald explains how it's not the end of everything because they don't die, or at least most of them. It's not about him and it's not about Thomas or anyone. It's about all of them.
